The Week Ahead
This week, we have a slew of incoming news, between economic reports, retail earnings, Nvidia earnings, and Jackson Hole.
The 10-year treasury yield also breached above resistance and topped highs made last October. This generally hurts not just tech stocks but also housing stocks and causes upward pressure on mortgage rates. And I don’t think the move is done just yet, either. I can see the 10-year hitting 4.5-5%, sending mortgage rates well above 8%. We will have to see what the Federal Reserve says on Friday, but I’m not anticipating any Nasdaq-saving commentary.
So, what does this mean? Be on the lookout for some news-related volatility!
Big Movers Watchlist
After selling off last week, the Nasdaq started to rip on Monday after the put/call ratio got far too extended to the short side. As such, high-volatility names are ripping to the upside, providing short-term trading opportunities. But whether or not that move continues remains to be seen, as most mega-cap tickers, including the indexes, have quite a bit of overhead resistance. The market will need a more significant catalyst than a simple short-covering rally to break through those overhead ceilings.
But, for now, this rip can be traded — until the momentum dies.
Yesterday, I stopped by TraderTV LIVE to discuss some of the biggest movers already this week, including:
- Adobe (ADBE)
- Nvidia (NVDA)
- Tesla (TSLA)
- Peloton (PTON)
- Microsoft (MSFT)
- and more!
