Let’s talk BBQ…

Thank you to all who attended my webinar last night! It was another great night, and I got to hear from a lot of you. For those of you who couldn’t attend I wanted to share with you some of the most important parts… and it all has to do with Barbecue!

What do BBQ combo plates have in common with trading?

At every great BBQ joint, they offer a wide variety of meat.

Each of these are different cuts, different flavors, and cooked with specific instructions to make sure they turn out perfectly delicious. Initially, you walk in and are immediately floored with the amount of choices you have. Do you pick the smoked chicken, ribs, or brisket? To which every time I answer, why not a combination?

Now, use your imagination to picture the market as your favorite BBQ restaurant. You, as an options trader can walk up to the counter and be offered a variety of different options. There are calls, put credit spreads, butterflies, and more!

How do you pick which strategy to apply to your account? Well, treat it the same way as your BBQ and use a combination!

What are my favorite strategy combinations? (in terms of BBQ!):

  • Some days when the market is on fire, my combo plate will have a mixture of lots of calls and bullish butterflies.
  • On days when the market is soft, I switch my plate to have a mixture of spreads and butterflies.

Using a combination of strategies almost always leaves you more satisfied.

Some days you may feel like eating something different, but as long as you know how to load up a combination plate, you’ll be leaving the BBQ (or market) full and happy!

Is it “Too Late” to Short?

Whenever the market is falling, people want to know whether it’s too late to short. It’s easy to think it’s too late when it’s fallen so much, but in reality, the Nasdaq is only down about 10% year-to-date. In all respects, that’s a pretty minor buy-the-dip pullback and moment in time. I wouldn’t consider a … Read more

Capitulation, Incoming…

While indexes and key sectors have been falling, there hasn’t been true capitulation in the market. This is what we generally need to hit and maintain lows on a downward move like this. However, in this case, it has been a somewhat volatile but steadier decline than anything. Today, that is changing, as the Nasdaq … Read more
